Ford Maverick: If in US were just another car, a lil better option than the Pinto, in Brazil was considered a “Muscle Car”.
In the 70’s, the brazilian market was (and still is) dominated mostly by small cars from VW and FIat. Anything bigger than a Beetle and its varations were for the people with loads of money in the pocket.
The Maverick was the second most expensive car on Ford line up at the time, behind only the Ford Galaxie. The most desirable version was the GT (photo) with the gigant V8 302, at least for the local standarts.
The model It was a sales flop, cause it was lauched in 1973 as a 1974 model, just in time for the first oil crisis. Bad choice for engines options (it had also a 4cyl and a 6cyl that has the fuel economy of a V8 and a performance of a 4. Its production ended in 1977.
In the 80s, just like the Dodge Darts produced in Brazil, the model was a favorite on crushers in junkyards. The survivors now worth big money, specialy if it is a V8 GT. Sales prices can easily reach around the US$25, 30K.
